Elon Musk's ShitFuckery With the Treasury: How Musk's DOGE Team Threatens America's Financial Infrastructure
In a move that should scare the shit out of every American who values democratic governance, Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team has effectively forced out David Lebryk, a respected senior Treasury official, in their aggressive push to seize control of systems that manage trillions in government payments. This isn't just another Washington power struggle – it's a fucking assault on the foundational principles that keep our government's financial systems stable and protected from political manipulation.
The Treasury Takeover Attempt
The core of this crisis centers around DOGE's brazen attempt to gain access to Treasury payment systems that handle over $6 trillion annually. We're talking about the systems that process Social Security payments, Medicare disbursements, federal salaries, and tax refunds – basically, the entire damn financial backbone of the federal government. This isn't some minor administrative squabble; it's an unprecedented grab for control over the machinery that keeps America running.
"These payment systems are intentionally isolated from political interference for a damn good reason," explains former Treasury Deputy Secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin. "Giving control to political appointees or outside figures creates risks that are almost impossible to overstate."
The Civil Service Under Siege
The departure of David Lebryk represents more than just the loss of a senior official – it's a warning sign of the erosion of professional civil service under political pressure. Lebryk's team has been crucial in monitoring and reporting on the government's ability to meet its financial obligations, particularly during debt ceiling crises. Their independence has been a critical firewall against political manipulation of government finances.
The timing of this shakeup couldn't be worse, with another debt ceiling crisis looming. "Removing experienced career officials during a period of potential financial instability is like firing the pilot mid-flight," notes former OMB Director Peter Orszag. "It's not just reckless – it's potentially catastrophic."
The Musk Factor: Billionaire Overreach
Let's call this what it is: a billionaire trying to get his hands on the controls of government payment systems. Elon Musk, who's shown about as much respect for government institutions as a bull in a china shop, is now positioned to potentially influence trillions in government disbursements. The implications are frankly terrifying.
While Trump's executive order creating DOGE grants it access to "all" unclassified records and systems, the scope of this authority is murky at best. "There's a huge difference between access to records and control over payment systems," explains government ethics expert Norman Ornstein. "This looks like a massive overreach of the executive order's intended scope."
The Trump Connection: Chaos by Design
The role of Trump in this power grab remains characteristically unclear. Trump's typical approach to governance was summed up in his own words at a 2017 rally: "I'm going to drain the swamp of bureaucrats who only know how to kill jobs. Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it." This latest move aligns perfectly with his pattern of undermining professional civil service in favor of loyal political operatives and wealthy allies.
Democratic Safeguards at Risk
The potential consequences of this move are staggering. Giving an unelected billionaire potential influence over government payment systems creates risks that should make every American's blood run cold. The ability to selectively delay or interrupt congressionally authorized funding isn't just a technical capability – it's a weapon that could be used to pressure political opponents or advance private interests.
"This is exactly the kind of scenario the civil service system was designed to prevent," warns public administration expert Paul Light. "When you put critical government functions under political control, you're basically begging for abuse."
The Broader Implications
This isn't just about one official or one department. This represents a fundamental shift in how our government operates. The professional civil service exists to ensure continuity, expertise, and protection from political manipulation. Replacing this system with political appointees and private sector figures with their own agendas is a recipe for disaster.
The stability of our government's financial systems isn't some abstract concept – it affects every damn American who receives a Social Security check, depends on Medicare, or works for the federal government. The potential for abuse in a system controlled by political appointees and private sector figures is enormous.

Shitfuckery of the highest order. This fool needs to be deported.
Was Lebryk planning to leave anyway? Was he fired? His name is still on the website. Who is being pushed as his replacement? Are systems in place to prevent DOGE folks from being able to order anyone to provide them access? How secure are the computer systems at the Treasury to prevent movement of funds and data to unauthorized sources? Can members of Congress request access to the data? I have so many questions that I feel like an auditor or a reporter. I just perused the Treasury site and did some screen shots. It'll be interesting to see what it says in another week. The title of this post is on point. I can't find polite words to describe my emotions right now.
