I read a few things repetitively because I get more out of them as my worldview grows. Golden is exactly what Madison, Hamilton, and Jay warned about: Career politicians. They believed, each in their own perspective, House seats should not be filled with people attempting to make a profession of politics. The idea was that brevity was the soul of purpose in the House - get in, do it, move on to other life pursuits. Of course they missed some realities that cropped up later. But the idea of “saving your own skin” was anathema to the entire design of the House.

Golden is just the kind of guy a good leader knows when to put in a UPS box and return to sender back to their home district, never to return to the halls of Congress. Believe me, between him and fucking Fetterman who seems to be taking out his existential midlife crisis on the rest of us in a punitive way, there are some people who have no business being in DC. The invertebrate class falls squarely in this arena. I just wonder if there will even be this kind of political structure in existence here in the US in 20-30 years (or maybe much less distant in the future). Frustrating as hell.

Thanks for posting this, Wendy - well written!
