Physical Setting & Preparation
Find a place where you can feel the strengthening pulse of mid-spring - perhaps beneath a flowering tree, beside new green growth, or near moving water that carries the energy of renewal. If indoors, create a space with fresh flowers, sprouting plants, or items that connect you to the growing season. Sit comfortably with your back straight but not rigid, either on the ground or in a chair. Place both hands palms up on your thighs, in a gesture of receptivity. Take seven deep breaths, imagining with each inhale that you draw in the vital energy of spring, and with each exhale that you release anything that prevents you from being fully present to this moment of seasonal power.
Opening Invocation | Fosgladh
"A Mhàthair na Talmhainn, air an deicheamh latha den Ghiblean, tha mi a' gairm ort. Èist ri mo ghuth mar a tha mi ag èisteachd ri do ghuth anns a' ghaoth, anns na h-eòin, anns an uisge."
"Mother of the Earth, on this tenth day of April, I call to you. Hear my voice as I hear your voice in the wind, in the birds, in the water."
"Mar a tha an saoghal a' dùsgadh gu beatha ùr, dùisg mo spiorad cuideachd."
"As the world awakens to new life, awaken my spirit also."
Visualize yourself in a sun-warmed clearing. Morning light streams through tender new leaves, creating patterns of gold and green around you. The air vibrates with birdsong and carries the sweet scent of blossoms and rich earth. Feel yourself as part of this living tableau, both observer and participant in the unfolding story of spring.
Body of the Working | Corp
"Anns an àm seo de bhlàthachadh agus fàs, tha mi a' faireachdainn awe a' lìonadh mo bhith."
"In this time of blooming and growth, I feel awe filling my being."
Allow your awareness to expand to the extraordinary precision of life's unfolding around you - each plant growing according to its nature, each creature following ancient patterns, each element playing its perfect role in the dance of seasons. Feel your breath deepen as you contemplate the magnificent intelligence that orchestrates this vast symphony.
"Tha gach flùr, gach duilleag, gach craoibh a' nochdadh gliocas do-thuigse."
"Each flower, each leaf, each tree displays unfathomable wisdom."
Sense your heart opening wider as you recognize your place within this intricate web. The awe you feel is a natural response to glimpsing the vast complexity and beauty of creation. It connects you to your ancestors who also stood in reverence before the mysteries of spring's renewal.
"Tha mi nam sheasamh aig doras a' mhìorbhail, làn iongnadh agus urram."
"I stand at the threshold of miracle, full of wonder and reverence."
The Deep Working | An Obair Dhomhain
"A Mhàthair na Talmhainn, thoir do leigheas domh tro do mhìorbhailean."
"Mother of the Earth, bring your healing to me through your marvels."
Imagine strong, living roots extending from the base of your spine deep into the earth beneath you. Through these roots, you connect with the vast network of life that sustains all beings - mycelium webs, root systems, underground streams, sleeping seeds. The Mother of the Earth sends healing energy up through these roots into your body.
"Leighis mo chridhe le uamhas naomh. Nigh air falbh mo chleachdaidhean làitheil gus am faic mi do ghlòir."
"Heal my heart with holy awe. Wash away my daily habits so that I may see your glory."
Feel this healing energy dissolving any numbness or indifference that prevents you from experiencing the sacred in the ordinary. It removes the veil of familiarity that can blind us to everyday miracles.
"Mar a tha na flùraichean ag aideachadh cumhachd na grèine, fosglaidh mi mo chridhe do do chumhachd-sa."
"As flowers acknowledge the power of the sun, I will open my heart to your power."
Let this sense of awe expand beyond your immediate surroundings. Feel it encompassing the immense cycles of time, the dance of galaxies, the unfolding of evolution, the miracle of consciousness itself. You are simultaneously infinitesimal and infinite, a brief spark and an eternal flame.
Afterthought | Smuain Dheiridh
Take a moment to contemplate:
How might I carry this sense of awe into my everyday life? What daily miracles have I become blind to through habit or inattention? How might my actions change if I remembered that I walk always on sacred ground, through sacred time?
Closing Blessing | Beannachd Dheiridh
"A Mhàthair na Talmhainn, tapadh leat airson fosgladh mo shùilean do do mhìorbhailean. Cùm mo spiorad mothachail do do làthaireachd."
"Mother of the Earth, thank you for opening my eyes to your marvels. Keep my spirit aware of your presence."
"Mar a tha an t-earrach a' nochdadh do chumhachd, mar sin nochdaidh mo bheatha do ghràdh. Mar a tha gach luibh ag èirigh gu bhith na tha e an dàn dha, cuidich mi gus fàs gu làn mo nàduir fhìn."
"As spring reveals your power, so will my life reveal your love. As each plant rises to become what it is destined to be, help me to grow into the fullness of my own nature."
Gradually return your awareness to your physical body. Feel the ground beneath you, the air on your skin. When you are ready, gently open your eyes, carrying the awe of spring and the healing of the Earth Mother with you.
I like this one Wendy. It’s good. I’m not Druid and not there (yet, anyway) on a belief system that I’m comfortable with, but this does help to restore my spirit and mind after a brutal two days (personally). Thanks for it very much.
Visiting my older sister recently, she too reminded me that even at 69, I can still “grow into the fullness of my own nature”, and that all my loss and emptiness was making room for new experiences. Thanks for your wise words Wendy.
