Meditation: August 28th, 2025
"The earth holds all things lightly—mountains that seem eternal, rivers that appear permanent, all held in the open palm of time that gives and takes with equal grace."
Physical Setting & Preparation
Find yourself where detachment and devotion meet in the landscape—on a hillside where you can see vast distances yet feel intimately connected to the ground beneath you, beside water that flows freely yet carves deep channels through stone, or among flowers that bloom fully knowing their petals will fall. Let your body rest in a position of alert relaxation, engaged yet undemanding, present yet not grasping. Feel how the late August air holds both the intensity of summer's peak and the first breath of autumn's release.

Opening Invocation | Fosgladh
Màthair na Talmhainn, anns a' ghrèim
Mother of the Earth, in holding
Agus anns an leigeil mu sgaoil
And in letting go
Tha sinn a' tighinn thugad
We come to you
Le làmhan a tha eadar
With hands that are between
Cumadh agus fosgladh
Grasping and opening
A' sireadh ionnsachadh
Seeking to learn
Mu dheidhinn saorsa ann an gaol
About freedom in love
Breathe with the rhythm of attachment and release that governs all existence—the way your lungs must let go of each breath to receive the next, how your heart must empty to fill again, how even your thoughts must pass away to make space for new understanding. Feel yourself held in this cosmic rhythm of holding and releasing.
Body of the Working | Corp
Today we dance between detached and adoring—the cool wisdom that sees clearly and the warm love that embraces fully.
Tha dealachadh agus gràdh mòr
Detachment and great love
A' dannsa nam anam
Dancing in my soul
Mar reothairt agus teas-meadhan
Like ice age and warm season
A' teagasg dhomh
Teaching me
Mu dheidhinn saorsa fhìor
About true freedom
Anns an gaol
In love
Picture yourself watching a magnificent sunset, colors bleeding across the sky in impossible beauty, your heart swelling with wonder and gratitude. This is adoration in its purest form—the wholehearted embrace of what is beautiful, the full yes to life's offerings, the love that pours itself out without reservation or calculation.
Feel how adoration moves through you like honey through warm wood—sweet, penetrating, making everything golden. It asks nothing but gives everything, sees perfection in imperfection, finds the sacred in the ordinary. Your heart becomes a cathedral where everything that enters is blessed simply by being witnessed with love.
Ach tha an talamh cuideachd a' teagasg
But the earth also teaches
Mu dheidhinn leigeil seachad
About letting go
Le làmhan fosgailte
With open hands
Mar a tha na craobhan
As the trees do
A' leigeil seachad an duilleagan
Letting go their leaves
Now feel the other current—the spacious detachment that loves so deeply it does not need to possess, that appreciates so fully it can release without bitterness. This is not coldness but the ultimate warmth, not indifference but the highest care, the love that sets free rather than holds captive.
The Deep Working | An Obair Dhomhain
Tha mi a' ionnsachadh bho ghealach
I learn from the moon
A tha a' gràdhachadh na talmhainn
That loves the earth
Ach nach eil a' feuchainn
But is not trying
Ri grèim fhaighinn oirre
To grasp her
Ach a' dannsadh còmhla rithe
But dances with her
Ann an àite
In space
Descend into the earth's gravitational embrace—how she holds the moon in orbit without possessing it, how she loves the seasons while allowing them to change, how she nurtures countless forms of life while letting each follow its own path. Here the Mother reveals the secret of unconditional love: that true devotion creates space rather than demands ownership.
Feel how your detachment and adoration are not opposites but expressions of the same deep love—one that cares so much it refuses to diminish what it loves by trying to control it. Your detachment becomes not withdrawal but the spaciousness that allows your beloved to be fully themselves. Your adoration becomes not clinging but the generous appreciation that celebrates without needing to consume.
Ann an dealachadh
In detachment
Tha mi a' faighinn sàmhchair
I find peace
Ann an gràdh
In love
Tha mi a' faighinn beatha
I find life
Tha an dà chuid a' teagasg dhomh
Both teach me
Mar a bhith ann gun a bhith a' cumail grèim
How to be without grasping
Let yourself become like the earth's atmosphere—surrounding and supporting life while remaining transparent, essential yet invisible, intimate yet vast. Feel how detachment and adoration spiral together in the dance of unconditional love, each one making the other possible.
Afterthought | Smuain Dheiridh
Take a moment to contemplate:
How might your love become more like the earth's gravity—powerful enough to hold what matters close yet gentle enough to allow complete freedom of movement within that embrace?
Closing Blessing | Beannachd Dheiridh
Màthair na Talmhainn, teagaisg dhuinn
Mother of the Earth, teach us
Mar a ghabhas gaol gun ghlacadh
How to love without grasping
Mar a tha spèis gun seilbh
How to cherish without possessing
Thoir dhuinn cridhe
Give us heart
A tha leathann mar an speur
That is wide as the sky
Agus dlùth mar an talamh
And close as the earth
Slàn leat, a ghràdh shaor
Farewell, free love
Slàn leat, a dhealachadh caoimhneil
Farewell, gentle detachment
Dannsaibh còmhla
Dance together
Ann an cridhe fosgailte
In open heart
Return slowly to ordinary awareness, feeling how the earth continues to demonstrate this perfect balance—holding you securely while asking nothing in return, loving you completely while allowing you absolute freedom to be exactly who you are.
I’m about to listen with my first cup of coffee - my ritual. Thanking you in advance Wendy. I need this very badly this morning.
