Embracing Excitement in Spring's Approach
Physical Setting & Preparation
Find a place where you can sit comfortably, preferably where you can see or sense the outside world—near a window or outdoors if weather permits. Place before you something green and growing—a potted plant, fresh herbs, or even a small branch with swelling buds. Add a small dish of seeds and a cup of fresh water. If possible, include a bell or chime. Sit with your spine straight but relaxed, allowing energy to flow freely through your body. Rest your hands palms up on your knees in a gesture of receptivity. Take thirteen rhythmic breaths—one for each day that has passed in this month—feeling each inhale energize you and each exhale ground you.
Opening Invocation | Fosgladh
Air an treas latha deug den Mhàrt,
Eadar geamhradh a' crìonadh,
Agus earrach a' briseadh,
Tha mi a' faireachdainn gluasad luath mo chridhe.
A Mhàthair na talmhainn, cruthaich slighe do m' bheo-eòlas.
On this thirteenth day of March,
Between winter waning,
And spring breaking through,
I feel the quick movement of my heart.
Mother of the earth, channel my excitement.
Feel the vibrant energy of mid-March—the thirteenth day—a time when the earth's awakening becomes undeniable. Birdsong increases, daylight lengthens noticeably, the first flowers push through softening soil. This mirrors the feeling of excitement—a quickening of energy, an anticipation of possibilities. Observe the quality of light around you, how it seems more golden, more full of promise. Visualize your excitement as a bright, sparkling energy in your solar plexus, radiating outward through your entire being, just as the earth radiates renewed energy in every unfurling leaf and opening blossom.
Body of the Working | Corp
Tha beo-eòlas mar boinne-taiseachaidh an earraich,
A' ruith tro gach freumh agus geug.
Tha e a' teagasg dhuinn dannsadh leis a' bheatha,
Mar a dhannsas flùraichean leis a' ghaoith.
Excitement is like spring's sap,
Running through every root and branch.
It teaches us to dance with life,
As flowers dance with the wind.
Hold the seeds in your hands for a moment. Seeds contain immense potential energy—the blueprint and fuel for entire plants, patiently waiting for the right conditions to burst forth. This is the nature of healthy excitement—contained potential ready to be channeled into growth. Feel the texture of the seeds, their compact promise. This is the gift of the Mother Earth, who understands the perfect timing of activation and expression.
Now, bring your awareness to your body. Where do you feel excitement most strongly? Perhaps in your chest as a fluttering, in your limbs as restlessness, or in your mind as rapid thoughts. As you locate these sensations, acknowledge them with appreciation rather than trying to dampen them. With each breath, imagine the Mother's wisdom helping you to channel this vibrant energy—not to diminish it, but to direct it purposefully, just as the earth directs the spring's abundant energy into precisely timed blooms and growth.
The Deep Working | An Obair Dhomhain
A Mhàthair na talmhainn, teagaisg dhomh,
Mar a chumas mi beothalachd an earraich,
Gun a bhith ga sgapadh no ga chall.
Cuidich mi gus mo neart ùr a stiùireadh,
Mar a stiùireas tu an abhainn chun na mara.
Mother of the earth, teach me,
How to hold spring's vitality,
Without dispersing or losing it.
Help me to channel my new strength,
As you channel the river to the sea.
Take a few of the seeds and place them in the dish. Ring the bell or chime if you have one, allowing its clear tone to focus your attention. Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing in a sun-dappled forest clearing. The ground beneath your feet is soft with new growth. All around you, life is awakening—buds unfurling, birds calling, insects humming. The air itself seems to vibrate with potential.
In this sacred space, the Mother of the Earth approaches. She wears a crown of fresh leaves and early flowers. Her movements are both graceful and powerful—containing the perfect balance of excitement and purpose that you seek. In her hands, she carries a small clay vessel filled with glowing golden light.
"This is the season of awakening," she speaks, her voice like rustling leaves and flowing water combined. "The excitement you feel is my own life force rising through you, just as it rises through all growing things."
She offers you the vessel. "Many mistake excitement for something that must be expressed immediately or lost," she continues. "But the wise gardener knows that energy contained and directed grows stronger." As you accept the vessel, the golden light within begins to pulse in rhythm with your heartbeat.
"Feel how the energy stabilizes when held with intention," she instructs. "This is neither suppression nor uncontrolled expression, but the middle path—the way of creative manifestation."
She guides your hands to place the vessel at the base of a young sapling. As you do, threads of golden light extend from the vessel into the earth and up through the sapling, which visibly strengthens and grows more vibrant. "This is how excitement becomes creation," she smiles. "Not through frantic activity, but through channeled intention."
Feel her wisdom permeating your being, creating a contained vessel for your excitement. Remain in this connection for several minutes, breathing deeply.
Afterthought | Smuain Dheiridh
Take a moment to contemplate:
How might I direct my excitement toward meaningful creation rather than scattered activity? What seeds in my life are ready for the energy I feel rising within me? In what ways can I emulate the earth's perfect timing—neither rushing nor holding back, but moving in harmony with natural cycles?
Closing Blessing | Beannachd Dheiridh
Tha mi a' toirt taing dhut, a Mhàthair na talmhainn,
Airson do bheothalachd agus do ghliocais.
Mar a stiùireas tu beatha tro gach ràithe,
Mar sin stiùiridh mi mo neart tro gach latha.
Tha mi a' giùlan do chothromachd leam.
I give thanks to you, Mother of the earth,
For your vitality and your wisdom.
As you guide life through each season,
So will I guide my strength through each day.
I carry your balance with me.
Plant the seeds you have been holding into the dish of soil, a symbolic action of directing your excitement into tangible creation. Touch the green, growing thing you have before you, acknowledging your connection to all growing life. Finally, take a small sip of water, allowing its clarity to remind you that excitement, like water, is most powerful when channeled with purpose.
Rise slowly, carrying the earth's balanced energy within you. Know that just as the thirteenth of March vibrates with the increasing energy of approaching spring, you too can vibrate with excitement that is both fully felt and purposefully directed.
