Meditation: May 20th, 2025
"The wisdom of the oak speaks not through words but through roots that remember the ancient songs of earth and branches that dream of tomorrow's sky."
Physical Setting & Preparation
Find a place where sunlight dapples through leaves, perhaps beneath a flowering tree or near a stream where late spring waters flow with purpose. Remove your shoes and feel the warming earth beneath your feet. Place a small stone or seed in your palm—something that connects you to this abundant season. Allow your shoulders to soften and your breath to deepen as you prepare to enter this sacred working
.
Opening Invocation | Fosgladh
"Tha mi ag iarraidh beannachd na talmhainn mhòir, màthair gach nì." I seek the blessing of the great earth, mother of all things.
"Air an latha seo de Chèitean, tha mi a' faireachdainn beatha a' sruthadh tromham." On this day of May, I feel life flowing through me.
"Tha mi 'nam sheasamh aig meadhan an t-saoghail, eadar nèamh is talamh." I stand at the center of the world, between heaven and earth.
"An tìm seo de bhlàthan agus fàs, tha mi fosgailte do ghliocas na talmhainn." In this time of blossoms and growth, I am open to the wisdom of the earth.
Feel the warmth of late spring sun on your face. Notice how the world has transformed—no longer the tentative green of early spring but now the confident abundance of approaching summer. The world is alive with purpose, with momentum. Take three deep breaths, drawing in the fragrance of blossoms and the vitality that surrounds you.
Body of the Working | Corp
"Tha mi a' faireachdainn beannachd an t-samhraidh a' tighinn." I feel the blessing of summer approaching.
"Tha an saoghal làn dath agus fuaim agus beatha." The world is full of color and sound and life.
As you breathe, become aware of the feeling of determination rising within you. Like the seedling pushing through soil toward light, there is an unstoppable force within you seeking expression. Feel this determination as a warm, steady flame in your solar plexus.
"Mar a bhriseas am feur tro chloich, mar sin tha mo rùn làidir agus diongmhalta." As grass breaks through stone, so my purpose is strong and steadfast.
Imagine roots extending from the soles of your feet, reaching deep into the soil beneath you. These roots connect with the determination of all growing things—the tree that bends but does not break in wind, the flower that turns always toward the sun, the river that forever seeks the sea.
"Tha mo fhreumhan domhainn, mo rùn soilleir." My roots are deep, my purpose clear.
Now, allow yourself to notice a sense of nostalgia that sits alongside your determination—a soft awareness of what has passed before. Like the rings within a tree trunk, you carry the memory of previous seasons within your being.
"Tha cuimhne aig mo chorp air gach ràith a thàinig romham." My body remembers every season that came before me.
Feel how the earth herself holds memories—of ancient forests, of glaciers, of countless cycles of growth and rest. Your nostalgia is not separate from the earth's remembering; it is part of the same great tapestry of time.
"Ann an cuimhne na talmhainn, tha mo bheatha mar bhoinne uisge ann an abhainn mhòr." In the memory of the earth, my life is like a drop of water in a great river.
Notice how your determination and nostalgia are not in conflict but in conversation—the wisdom of what has been informs the strength of your forward movement.
The Deep Working | An Obair Dhomhain
"Air an latha seo, eadar earrach agus samhradh, tha mi a' tuigsinn gu bheil gach nì ceangailte." On this day, between spring and summer, I understand that all things are connected.
Close your eyes and envision yourself standing in a sun-dappled clearing. The trees around you whisper stories of seasons past—oak leaves rustling with centuries of wisdom, birdsong echoing through time. The Mother Earth beneath your feet holds you in perfect balance.
"Tha an talamh a' cumail mo chuimhne, a' neartachadh mo rùin." The earth holds my memory, strengthening my purpose.
Feel how your determination is not merely personal will but part of the great striving of all life. The same force that drives the seed to crack open in darkness moves also in you. The same patience that allows mountains to rise over millennia supports your journey.
"Chan eil mo neart leam fhèin, ach bho Mhàthair na Talmhainn." My strength is not mine alone, but from the Mother of the Earth.
Now, let your awareness sink into the sweet nostalgia that visits you. What memories arise? Perhaps the scent of rain on warm stones, the touch of a loved one's hand, or the taste of wild berries in summers past. These memories are not just yours—they belong to the great memory of the earth.
"Tha mo chuimhne mar dhuilleag ann an leabhar mòr na beatha." My memory is like a leaf in the great book of life.
Breathe deeply and feel how these two energies—determination and nostalgia—create a perfect tension within you, like the balanced forces that hold a tree both rooted and reaching.
"Eadar an t-àm a bha agus an t-àm ri teachd, tha mi beò anns an làthair." Between the time that was and the time to come, I live in the present.
Let the healing power of Mother Earth rise through your roots, into your body. Feel it soothing any conflicts between your forward momentum and your remembering heart. She teaches that all is cycle, all is connection—your determination grows from the soil of memory, and your nostalgia seeds the gardens of tomorrow.
"Tha gliocas na talmhainn a' sruthadh tromham mar abhainn." The wisdom of the earth flows through me like a river.
Afterthought | Smuain Dheiridh
Take a moment to contemplate:
How does the tension between determination and nostalgia manifest in the natural world around you? What wisdom can the earth's cycles teach you about honoring both your forward movement and your remembered past?
Closing Blessing | Beannachd Dheiridh
"Gun robh beannachd na talmhainn còmhla rium gach latha." May the blessing of the earth be with me each day.
"Mar a ghluaiseas a' ghrian tro na speuran, mar sin gluaiseam tro mo bheatha le gliocas is gràdh." As the sun moves through the skies, so may I move through my life with wisdom and love.
"Tha mi taingeil airson na thug an latha seo dhomh." I am grateful for what this day has given me.
"Gu robh mo cheum air an talamh làn urram." May my step on the earth be full of reverence.
"Slàn leat, a Mhàthair Talmhainn, gu ruige an ath choinneamh." Farewell, Mother Earth, until our next meeting.
Place your hands on the earth in gratitude, gathering your awareness back to the present moment. Carry the balance of determination and nostalgia with you as you return to your day, rooted in the wisdom of the earth.
Wonderfully poetic.
