This was incredibly informational and the statistical breakdowns were very insightful. It will help many improve their grocery budget. My problem is that I know where I should be shopping, and I try to be smart about it - but I get sucked into convenience, and while I hate that, I own it 🤷🏼‍♀️ there is a large chain grocery store within walking distance. Aldi is a 10-15 min drive. But you’ve inspired me to try and do better.

Also, here’s a fun fact about Aldi - most of their “off brand” items are literally name brand items simply packaged differently. My ex used to work for Kelloggs and he confirmed what many of us suspected but couldn’t really confirm. They produced many store branded items. Same production line. Same product.

This was very reaffirming to me as we shop primarily at Aldi , meat and chicken we buy in bulk at a local processing place or at Costco. Sometimes I fill in with discounted meat at local market which I use or freeze. The things I can’t get at Aldi I get at Costco as long as they are no perishables. Vitamins I still buy online as I like to get the pharmaceutical brands I from companies I trust. We eat pretty healthy which means cooking at home and mixing in plant based meals. I bake bread and make my own almond milk. It’s great if you can make a pantry out of a closet and stock up on non perishables when on sale. This also cuts down on frequent grocery store trips where you just need a couple items but end up with a bagful. It’s also true… don’t go to the grocery when you are hungry!

I agree with this. Kansas City has a locally owned store with several locations called Hen House, and they have the best produce, meats, fish, and dairy. Their prices are higher than most local markets, but to me it's worth it to get the best fresh stuff. For household supplies and dry and boxed and canned stuff, Aldi is fine. I used to buy pet supplies through Amazon, but I buy through chewy now because I'm trying to buy as little from Amazon as I can. I do still buy my vitamins and supplements through them, however, along with the laundry detergent that I like but can't find anywhere else.

I shop at Aldi’s, but a few items I won’t buy there.

Breakfast Sausage

Produce (unless I’ll be using within 2 days)

Leery of meat in general, but pork chops are good.

I love Aldi’s so this is very affirming, it’s about 10 miles round trip. I shop at Hy-Vee or Cubs which is less than 3 miles specifically for sale items.

Fascinating! Unfortunately, my closest Aldi's is 600 miles away...
