I hate to disagree somewhat, but this is not new. It happens to black people in the South ( and when I was young) and it happened to us in the Sixties and Seventies. I refer you to J. Edgar Hoover. I've seen it all before, Wendy, it's not new to me. What is new is the current republican party. What is also new is ai correcting my writing. I don't comment much, but I may stop.

Excellent article, Wendy. The HF and their brethren use LGBQT+ issues as a dog whistle. In 2004 gay marriage was their point of division. They also deny and vilify science. Science basically refutes all of their claims. While it wasn’t my field, colleagues whose labs were “down the hall” studied transgender treatments. The bottom line is groups like the HF are using trans as an issue most people don’t understand to muddy the waters and sew hate.
Your article is spot on. It is accurate to describe the Heritage Foundation’s agenda as ‘calculated evil’ because they are clearly advocating for an extermination event. They are starting with the trans community but will come after the rest of us next (people of color, women, disabled, veterans, homeless, atheists, political dissidents, etc.). Under this administration, led by the pedophile-in-chief, no one will be spared unless they are a white christian nationalist. I believe Americans are waking up to Trump’s evil corruption but we need mobilize soon. I will never comply with this bullshit. Stand strong and stand proud, we are in this together. ✊
