The cult of celebrity is very powerful. Especially so in both the US & UK. We have learned from an early age to see our collectivity in the world through the lens of progressivist stories with goodies and baddies and a gold fastened Happy Ending. Whether it be fairy tales or the Bible or Disney world. Postwar a cultural propaganda operation to win global hearts and minds was operated by the UK and US centring on London (and the global empire reaching BBC) New York and Hollywood deploying stories to create a cultural hegemon.
I see all American presidents since Eisenhower as benefitting from this New World Order story in its ability to rally a loyal voting base. Blue and Red alike. See politics structurally as a religion and the power of both the celebrity status of POTUS (as carefully edited through film clips) and the word (media journalism) and Trump’s abiding appeal is simply state funded stagecraft. Other countries have their stars and heroes but the US and UK are unique in struggling under decades of being gaslit via a star system specifically built by their governments to manipulate and control.

I use this term quite a bit for anyone who has done a complete 180 with their political beliefs because of their new partner’s influence. I always had a sense that this may be what happened to him!
