My former son-in-law got caught up in the whole church tide of “gay is not okay.” Married one of my girls. Struggled through 20 years of marriage and 3 kids, trying so hard to be hetero. 20 years.

They got divorced—I’m not proud of how my daughter dealt with it, seeing herself as the injured party. He was too, trying to shove himself into a mold not shaped like him.

Finally though he’s able to love who he wants to. My daughter seems happily remarried. But the garbage he went through for so long….ugh.

Having been a church girl in my former life, I know how much people screw up the love of God. There can be so much questioning of how “good” one is by checking boxes, leading to inauthenticity and shame in areas besides sexuality too.

I read somewhere that there are camps where parents send their children, where they remain prisoners until they become un-gay. Good luck with that.

So much hate and self-loathing in the name of Christianity! Had these conversion therapies never started think of how much love and acceptance we'd all be living now. Anita Bryant's involvement was a f*ing nightmare.

Failed-thankfully! People have a right to love whomever they want!

Wonder how many queer folk abandoned religion and became atheists rather than switch to straight. That would be an interesting poll. Reminds me of the saying about doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome.
