I'm wondering if Tchaikovsky's inner torment was the source of his brilliant music. If he had allowed himself the freedom to be as authentic as his brother would he have created music so heartbreakingly moving as he did? Perhaps being free to love as a gay man, his music would have been just plain normative, Still lovely, perhaps, but lacking the wrenching emotion that has kept his music alive for centuries.
So very interesting. I'm a 78-yr old straight, white, Vietnam Veteran guy who is quite open to anyone's choice of sexuality, except for the child rapist shit that Trump and Epstein represent. I hadn't understood that Tchaikovsky led such a frightening and frustrating life (slow learner I guess). The torment does show itself in his extremely talented music.
