You know what keeps me up at night: What happens when nine unelected justices decide that the very foundation of representative democracy is just another goddamn suggestion?
One of the problems with securing voting rights is that its not a right specifically enumerated in the Constitution. It seems like a glaring omission that its not. Given the hyper polarization in state and national government now it would probably be next to impossible to pass such an amendment (or any amendment for that matter). The last Constitutional amendment to pass was the 27th, in 1992 (in a long ago and different world). And proposing a Constitutional Convention would open up a very big can of wriggling worms.
Of course, the 11th &12th Amendments proclaim:
Article the eleventh... The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
Article the twelfth... The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Which would seem to indicate the the writers of, and the people that voted for the Constitution and its Amendments, didn't intend to limit the rights of American citizens to those actually spelled out. But that's not how the Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom over the past 249 years, has ruled.
I listened to a few historians who are experts in Authoritarians and she explained. It is time to leave your country when they inject federal gov into elections. Get out!
The whole point of the so-called culture wars is to reinforce racism and the notion that white male Americans have the most and only rights. Clarence Thomas won his robes on the Court by the Senate crushing the credibility of a highly-credible, educated black woman.
Clarence Thomas is an Oregon. Black on the outside and white on the inside. Bet he'd be very unhappy if the KKK became powerful again. Pretty sure they wouldn't like him being married to a white woman even if she is a white nationalist.
