This is the kind of sermon Jesus might have given ❤️ "reading the riot act", swearing included. Great read. Thank you.

I doubt Trump has ever said a prayed in his entire life. Religion like everything else in his life will be used and cast aside for his own gain.

A tremendous read Wendy 🙌🏽💙Your article was better than going to Sunday school in the 70’s & 80’s. The juxtaposition of Jesus representing a life of truth and Trump speaking lies, believing his lies, is a withering stark contrast between a Man of Color 🧔🏾‍♀️and a colored (the orange residue) man.

The problem is most of these MAGA Christians have never read from the book you're quoting here. Maybe just the passages that are in the Sunday bulletin. I'm not even Christian and I've read every single bible I could get my hands on including the Lambda Bible in Aramaic while cross referencing into English. That's how curious I was.

Great essay/proclamation! I appreciate your scholarship. Takes me back to Greek class in Seminary, which I must acknowledge that I have lost a lot of my learning... your command of Koine Greek is impressive. Thank you.

Wendy to you're right-on! I can't figure out how these so-called maga Christians can't see that they are worshipping a false God. I'm not a bible reader (I went to Catholic schools and they only give you half a semester of the New Testament in high school Religion class, the rest is Catholic interpretation in your prayer books). I did hear a nun say (in HS religion class) that the reason the church condemned birth control (except the kind that doesn't work) wasn't because of baby love but because they wanted to increase the population of Catholics (I thought this an odd reveal at the time). Evidently, these maga trolls missed the Jesus memo. They seem to have mistaken it for Satan's good works. Keep up the enlightenment! Truth and love is what we all need about now.

Fuck an A' yeah.

I swear most of the "christian" right either doesn't read their beloved King James bible, or if they have, they learnt nothing from it.

Alas, this started in the US, but seems to be metastasizing around the world.

This is worth reading twice. The second time will weigh heavily on you and will not be forgotten if you even have half a heart. Sublime article/commentary, Wendy.

A slightly condensed version of this should be the next sermon preached by every church in the nation! You captured it all.

I can give you a condensed version , but I assure you no Protestant pastor will preach it

Can I get that cond version to place in our small local newspaper. We, the town D party of 50 , are planning on buying space and need something powerful to wake up this red baptist community of 15000.

I'd have to run it by the group tho. Say, can you weigh in on our local disagreement. TN Indivisible say we're co- optying the civil rights effort for our own purpose by being an all white group demonstrating .

One more thing…the explanation of the camel & the eye of the needle:

Years ago, cities built walls around them (the city) for protection. There were doors around the city that after dark or during warring times, people could enter into the city. These doors were small and very short. Meaning that a camel HAD to get down on his haunches and scoot forward through the opening. That came against their nature and they’d refuse. If a man wished to enter, he had to bend over, almost with his head on his knees to get through. This prevented them from wielding any weapon.

Jesus’ comparison of the rich and the camel says that essentially they won’t ever humble themselves and thus they will NEVER enter the kingdom of HEAVEN.

I have found no Compendium. If there is one, I am not aware.

You’re missing the point. Jesus doesn’t say that those well off, rich cannot enter heaven. He’s talking about humility, sharing what you, or I or anyone has.

Not being arrogant or thinking others are less than you.

Not to worry. I have had a long life of experience and abuse. I don’t accept the garbage. I pray for the people who in all likelihood will suffer hells worst delights for all eternity.

When you pray for their souls and they say awful things, God says it’s like heaping coals of fire 🔥 on their heads.

Explaining stuff doesn’t bother me.

Is there somewhere I can read about this explanation? I always thought Jesus was being metaphorical as usual and I’ve always been confused by people saying that getting a camel through a needle’s eye is possible because it’s not an actual needle.

So, if I can help you, I will. Just ask. But, I must forewarn you, much is in my head.

I asked the Lord to allow me to retain this knowledge, that I may help others. He has. But that book of His is mighty big & I don’t have all the answers. My sincerest apologies.

Well, sometimes Christ was metaphorical.

I will try to find something that will help, but my knowledge was gleaned from many sources, not one place.

A Compendium (& that’s probably what’s needed), something to cover it all.

Jesus didn’t want such a thing. He said don’t throw pearls to swine. We’re not supposed to share with just anyone.

Why?

Because evil will seek to pollute it.

I guess I just don’t understand why Jesus didn’t mean it’s impossible for rich people to enter heaven. However, I’m making myself acknowledge that this is my personal frustration and I shouldn’t take it out on you.

Our Lord Jesus, GOD, does NOT lie. He is truth personified!! HE IS OUR LIGHT THROUGH THIS!!

Do NOT buy into the lies being spread by anyone, left or right!

Why?

Because they only care for themselves. Because they want to manipulate people to do NOTHING TO STOP THEM!!

Anonymous was right! Prepare. Stand strong. Help the weak. Hold fast to morals, but ESPECIALLY to the Word of GOD!!

I love that you’re able to go back to the original text. I don’t think Jesus was telling the rich young man to sell literally *everything *. Jesus did speak in parables and I think he was counseling the guy that wealth was in his way. Same difference, probably.

You make me regret not studying Greek and/or Hebrew when I was younger. The way you add context and subtext to word meanings opens both windows and doors into the New Testament that go well beyond King James or the Revised Standard Version and even the New English Bible doesn't hit those points. Many thanks.
