Regarding #32, I prefer PPOR: post pics or retract. We used it on an independent BB called The SC as far back as 1999. We also used to admin random members for a day, who would go on banning-binges, and play SC Survivor, and when renewal time came for hosting, we'd hold "telethons" of all kinds of jackassery to get members to contribute. Ah, the halcyon days of interwebs. We were so free and n00b.

As a humbled soul in the presence of someone who clearly knows their shit, this was fascinating. For reference as to my own (age) history, my first company back in 1994 got its MCI T1 installed, copper-pair, Ascend router. I was baptized in the unholy fire of TCP/IP so that I could (at the time) deliver static web pages for my clients. We worked our way up to a DS3 by 99 and a full raised floor datacenter. I shut it all down in 2003 because I saw the crest had happened and consolidation was coming behind it really fast. All the while, I was just doing the internet-startup thing and writing software in C++ and ISAPI libs to override IIS’s flaws.

Wow, I watched my own stomach involuntarily squeeze itself into the size of a walnut as I read this. It was like being forcibly dragged from my little hole back in time! As weird as it sounds, I really enjoyed your compilation and getting my cranium smacked like that. It was unexpected! Keep up the great work! (Apologies if my paragraph above doesn’t click; it’s very dated and a bit technical so you’d have to come from a very specific period in history and context to β€˜get it’.)

I must append a number 49: The Napster Creed. Repeat after me: SHARING'S ONLY FUN WHEN IT'S NOT YOUR STUFF 😁

Years ago I came across something like this. I remember when we had dial up back in the early '90s. I was on several boards when this was first starting to get going and developing. Oh the good old days 😜

That is not the USUAL response I get from people when talking about the β€œRules of the Internet”. But thank you Catherine.
